The Brief
The design plans I was handed gave me a starting point, but once on site it was clear the measurements weren’t going to work with the space. After a quick conversation with the client’s estate manager, I found myself on the phone with the client himself within minutes. His instruction: forget the plans, design around his vision. From that point, I was working from raw materials with no pre-made components, building everything from scratch to fit a structure full of curves and mitres.
The Result
Over six weeks, I built a summerhouse on the balcony of his private beach – including a bar modelled on a boat from the local harbour, spanning roughly four metres. Every piece of timber was hand-formed to fit. It was one of the most demanding builds I’ve done, and one of the ones I’m most proud of.
